A Proclamation

WHEREAS, the future quality of life in the State of Mississippi is undeniably linked to the quality of Mississippi's educational system; and,

WHEREAS, Mississippi’s public schools are challenged to leave no child behind and to prepare all children to compete effectively in a global society; and,

WHEREAS, school board members, superintendents and all school staff must work together with the community to best serve Mississippi’ s children; and,

WHEREAS, local school board members have a critical role in facilitating community and school consensus regarding the vision for public education in their school districts; and,

WHEREAS, local school board members are ultimately responsible for ensuring that every available resource is identified and applied in helping students reach high levels of academic achievement; and,

WHEREAS, local school board members have consistently produced creative, innovative and strategic plans and programs for higher levels of student achievement; and,

WHEREAS, local school board members stand as champions for children and communities:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Haley Barbour, Governor of the State of Mississippi, hereby proclaim the week beginning February 15th, as

SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER RECOGNITION WEEK

in the State of Mississippi.
