MARK IV SELLS INTERSTATE
HIGHWAY SIGN UNIT
Amherst, New York, October 25, 1996 -- Mark IV Industries, Inc. (NYSE: IV) today announced the sale of its Interstate Highway Sign (Interstate) operating unit to a privately held company in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for approximately $12 million in cash.
Located in Little Rock, Arkansas, Interstate, a manufacturer of highway information signs for the North American market, had revenue of approximately $20.4 million in the fiscal year ended February 29, 1996. It is one of several non-core businesses being sold as part of a divestiture plan, and brings the total of Mark IV's proceeds from this program, so far, to $102 million.
Sal H. Alfiero, chairman and chief executive officer of Mark IV, said "The sale of the Interstate Highway Sign unit moves us one step closer to completing our divestitures and getting on with growing the company's industrial and automotive operations."
Proceeds from the transaction will be used, initially, to reduce bank debt. Subsequently, however, the funds may be combined with proceeds from other divestitures, and used to finance acquisitions or repurchase the company's stock.
Mark IV Industries, Inc., headquartered in the Buffalo suburb of Amherst, New York, employs approximately 17,600 people worldwide, manufacturing power and fluid transfer systems and components for global industrial and automotive markets.
