GOVERNOR BARBOUR CALLS LAWMAKERS BACK ON AUGUST 4
(JACKSON, Mississippi) – Governor Haley Barbour announced today he will call lawmakers back at 10 a.m. on August 4 to continue the current Special Session.
“The Legislature made no progress this week on finding a fair, permanent, sustainable funding solution for Medicaid. The Legislature does not have to be in session for work on this vital issue to continue, and there is no reason taxpayers should have to pay for a stalled legislative process,” Governor Barbour said.
Governor Barbour has asked the Chancery Court of Hinds County to expedite a ruling on a lawsuit filed over whether the Division of Medicaid can increase gross revenue assessments on Mississippi hospitals as a means of funding the program, as was Governor Barbour’s original proposal in 2006. It is expected the Court will hear the motion on Thursday, July 10.
