GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR FILLS YAZOO COUNTY COURT VACANCY

 

(Jackson, Mississippi) – Governor Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of municipal judge Derek E. Parker as judge of the Yazoo County Court. Parker will serve the unexpired term of former Judge Hudson Lloyd Thomas, who died in office.

 

“Derek is a man of integrity and high moral character. I know that he will be an asset to Mississippi’s judicial system,” Governor Barbour said.

 

Parker has served as a Yazoo City Municipal Judge since 2000 and youth court public defender since 2002. He has prior service as Chancery Court Judge in District 11, where he filled an unexpired term, and was the Yazoo City Municipal Court Prosecutor for three years. Parker is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law and Mississippi State University. He is a member of the Mississippi State Bar and a prior Holmes County Youth Court Referee.
