SEPTEMBER UNEMPLOYMENT RATE RISES, MORE MISSISSIPPIANS LOOKING FOR WORK, GOV. BARBOUR SAYS
September employment near pre-recession levels A slight rise in the state’s unemployment rate for September shows more Mississippians are restarting their job search, Gov. Haley Barbour said today. Although Mississippi’s unemployment rate rose to 10.6 percent in September from 10.4 percent, the state saw the number of people working increase by 2,700 over the month.

GOV. BARBOUR APPOINTS BRADY AS BANKING COMMISSIONER
Gov. Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of Theresa Brady of Ridgeland as Commissioner of the Department of Banking and Consumer Finance. Brady begins the new position effective immediately. Brady replaces John Allison, who retired in September after almost 40 years with the department.

GOV. BARBOUR ISSUES PROCLAMATION TO CLOSE STATE OFFICES IN OBSERVANCE OF HOLIDAYS
Gov. Haley Barbour has issued a proclamation to close state offices on Nov. 24 in observance of Thanksgiving Day; Dec. 26 in observance of Christmas Day; and Jan. 2, 2012, in observance of New Year’s Day. According to the Governor’s proclamation, agency heads may close offices on Nov. 25, Dec. 23, and Dec. 30 at their own discretion.
