GOV. BARBOUR SETS SPECIAL ELECTION FOR NOV. 8
Gov. Haley Barbour today set a Nov. 8 special election to fill the unexpired term of the state Senate seat held by the late Sen. Jack Gordon.
The post represents District 8, which includes parts of Calhoun, Chickasaw, Grenada and Lee counties. The vacancy was created by Gordon's death on May 7.
The qualifying deadline for the election will be Oct. 9. If a run-off is necessary, it will be Nov. 29. The winner will serve the remainder of the office's term, through the end of 2011. The position will be on the ballot this year as part of the regular state election cycle.
