STATEMENT OF GOV. BARBOUR ON STATUS OF BUDGET TALKS
"The House has been ignoring reality, now they can't do simple math. House leadership wants to spend more money in FY 2012 while claiming they will leave more in reserves than either the Senate or me. That’s ridiculous. Anybody who can do simple math knows that if you spend more out of a finite amount of money, you necessarily save less.
"The House also is claiming that we would spend the same amount of state money on MAEP in FY 2012 as we did this year. In fact, Mississippi would spend more state dollars on MAEP in FY 2012 because we are replacing $128.4 million in federal stimulus funds with state money. On top of this, schools have $85 million at their disposal from the federal government waiting to be spent next year."
