STATEMENT OF GOV. BARBOUR ON PRELIMINARY DECEMBER REVENUES
“As of today, the state’s preliminary December revenue collections just met the estimate for the fiscal year. The state collected $340 million, which was 1.29 percent above our expectations for December. While we have seen three consecutive months where revenues have met the target, it has been by small margins. We must be cautious for the remainder of the fiscal year as the national economy has not fully recovered from the recession. As the Legislature returns to begin drafting a budget for FY 2012, we must be mindful of the long, slow economic recovery ahead. That fact, coupled with the loss of hundreds of millions of federal stimulus dollars, will require difficult decisions to keep state services operating effectively and within a balanced budget.”
