GOV. BARBOUR’S STATEMENT ON THE APPROVAL OF THE KIOR PACKAGE
IN THE SPECIAL SESSION
“The decision by the Legislature to approve the incentive package to bring the first three of KiOR Corp.’s full-scale production facilities to Mississippi is not only an economic development boon for our state, but also a key step toward energy self-reliance for our country.
“It’s important to remember that KiOR has committed to bring a total of five of these facilities to the state, and Kior will get no state support until they have a binding, written agreement from a major oil company to refine KiOR’s product in its commercial refineries. The process of converting biomass into a crude oil substitute is especially suited for Mississippi, with our abundant supply of KiOR’s most needed raw product: wood. It will increase the value of our raw wood products, and it fits hand-in-glove with our drive to expand our base of high-tech jobs.”
