GOVERNOR BARBOUR REITERATES CONCERN OVER COSTS OF HEALTHCARE REFORM PROPOSALS Current healthcare reform proposals debated in the U.S. Congress would raise health insurance rates for Mississippi families and businesses and push affordable healthcare out of reach, Governor Haley Barbour wrote in a letter to all members of Mississippi's Congressional delegation Tuesday.

GOVERNOR BARBOUR APPOINTS HINDS COUNTY ATTORNEY TO CIRCUIT COURT POST
Governor Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of S. Malcolm O. Harrison, of Jackson, as Circuit Court Judge for the Seventh Judicial District, Sub-district 4, serving Hinds County. Harrison will serve the unexpired term of former Judge Bobby DeLaughter, who resigned July 30; the term ends January 3, 2011.

GOVERNOR BARBOUR ISSUES PROCLAMATION TO CLOSE STATE OFFICES IN OBSERVANCE OF HOLIDAYS
Governor Haley Barbour has issued a proclamation to close state offices on November 26, 2009, in observance of Thanksgiving Day; December 25, 2009, in observance of Christmas Day; and on January 1, 2010, in observance of New Year's Day. According to the Governor's proclamation, agency heads may close offices on November 27, 2009, December 24, 2009, and December 31, 2009 at their own discretion.

GOVERNORS BARBOUR, RILEY AND JINDAL ANNOUNCE LAUNCH OF THE AEROSPACE ALLIANCE
Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, Alabama Governor Bob Riley and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal today announced the launch of The Aerospace Alliance, a 501(c)(6) private/public organization that will establish the Gulf Coast and surrounding region as a world-class aerospace, space and aviation corridor.  The announcement was made before hundreds of supporters at an event in Bay Minette, Alabama.

GOVERNOR BARBOUR SETS HOUSE SPECIAL ELECTION DATE FOR NOV. 17
Governor Haley Barbour today set a Nov. 17 election date for the District 117 vacancy in the State House of Representatives. The qualifying deadline for the district in Harrison County is Oct. 18. If a run-off is necessary, it will be held on Dec. 8. The office became open Sept. 28 when Michael Janus resigned from the House to take the post as city manager for D’Iberville. There are two years remaining in the current term of office.

"As we now know, September tax collections fell short of estimates by more than $44.9 million, or 10.16 percent; for the first three months of Fiscal Year 2010, total collections are $83.2 million, or 7.68 percent, below estimates.
