GOVERNOR BARBOUR MAKES APPOINTMENTS TO STATE MEDICAID DRUG UTILIZATION REVIEW BOARD

 

(Jackson, Mississippi)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointments of Dr. J. Mark Reed of Jackson, Alvin Dixon of Clarksdale and Dr. Edgar Donahoe of Indianola to the Drug Utilization Review Board at the Division of Medicaid.

 

The Drug Utilization Review Board is a quality assurance body, which seeks to assure appropriate drug therapy to include optimal outcomes for Medicaid beneficiaries and appropriate education for physicians, pharmacists, and Mississippians.

 

“I know Dr. Reed, Dr. Donahoe and Mr. Dixon will bring to this board invaluable insight into the patients’ needs and the desires of the medical community,” Governor Barbour said. “I am pleased these well-qualified individuals have agreed to serve on this board.”

 

Dr. J. Mark Reed currently is a pediatric otolaryngologist and an associate professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Previously, he worked 10 years at an ear, nose and throat surgical group. He received his bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College and his medical degree from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Reed is a deacon at Riverwood Bible Church. He and his wife Cathy have three children, Anna Grace, Catherine and Caroline.

 

Alvin Dixon is a pharmacy manager at Wal-Mart in Clarksdale. He also works part time at the Delta Health Center. Previously, he managed the Kroger pharmacy for 17 years. Prior to that, he worked as a staff pharmacist at Tulane Medical Center.  He received degrees from Jackson State University and Xavier University. Mr. Dixon has four children, Jimmy Conrad, Makonnen Guidry, Yashimabet Dixon and Akono Dixon.

 

Dr. Edgar Donahoe has worked as a physician at Indianola Family Medical Group for 16 years. He received his bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College and his medical degree from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Donahoe is a deacon at First Baptist Church of Indianola. He is active in the Mid-Delta Arts Association, an advisor to the 4-H Club and Second Vice President of the Mississippi College Alumni Board. He and his wife Jana have three children, Trey, Megan Kaye and Drew.
