“This announcement by FEMA and the Centers for Disease Control reinforces what we in Mississippi have said all along: Travel trailers are not suitable for long-term living; they were an emergency measure and were never designed to provide anything other than short-term accommodations.
“That’s why Mississippi pioneered the Mississippi Cottage as an alternative housing program. We are moving people into safer, more stable homes. FEMA should consider this kind of alternative housing, and to that end we’re willing to work with them and other states to make Mississippi Cottage units available for transitional and permanent housing.”
