GOVERNOR BARBOUR APPOINTS TWO TO MISSISSIPPI ARTS COMMISSION

Governor Haley Barbour has appointed of Dottie Scruggs Gozan of Jackson and Nancy Yates of Philadelphia to the Mississippi Arts Commission, which establishes program objectives, recommends budgets, assesses needs, evaluates program effectiveness and awards grants.

"The arts are a part of the bedrock of Mississippi culture," Governor Barbour said. "I appreciate the service of Mrs. Gozan and Mrs. Yates on the arts commission, and their efforts to expand the influence of the arts community."

Gozan is the owner of Gozan Interiors and the Bohemian Kitchen, a bath and kitchen showroom that opened in 2008. She previously was employed as an interior designer, specializing in kitchen and bath design. She has had works published in Mississippi magazine, Delta magazine, Southern Living magazine, VIP and the Clarion-Ledger. She also won prestigious awards from the Southeast chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers and Southern Living. She is involved in the Junior League of Jackson, Habitat for Humanity, and is secretary of the Miss./La./Ark. chapter of National Kitchen and Bath Association. She is a graduate of Callaway High School and Mississippi State University. She and her husband, Steven, have two children, Nathan and Rachel.

Yates was selected as Neshoba County’s Outstanding Young Educator and previously taught elementary school. She is a past member and president of the Philadelphia Public School Board of Trustees and past chairperson of the First United Methodist Kindergarten Committee. She is the regional director and Mississippi board member for the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She is a board member on the Mississippi Museum of Art and Mississippi International Ballet Competition. She is a graduate of Senatobia High School. Yates received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Mississippi University for Women and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Mississippi University for Women. She and her husband, Bill, have two children, William Yates, III and Carolyn Voyles.
