GOVERNOR BARBOUR MAKES APPOINTMENTS TO STATE BOARD OF NURSING
Governor Haley Barbour has appointed Helen Amos of Laurel and reappointed Gary Dwayne Self of Canton to the Mississippi Board of Nursing, which promulgates rules and regulations for the licensure of registered nurses and licensed practical nurses.
“Helen’s and Dwayne’s experiences in the medical field will bring valuable knowledge and experience to the Board of Nursing,” said Governor Barbour. “I appreciate their commitment to their field and to the state.”
Amos replaces board member Rosemary Caraballo. Amos currently serves as a licensed practical nurse at South Central Regional Medical Center. She attended Wayne State University and Jones Community College, where she received her licensed practical nurse certification. Amos, who represents the Fourth Congressional District, will serve an unexpired term ending June 30, 2009.
Dwayne is a certified registered nurse anesthetist at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The Third Congressional District representative’s term will end June 30, 2012. Dwayne attended Millsaps College and the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he received his bachelor’s degree in nursing. He and his wife, Patty, have three children, Forrest, Samuel and Allyn.
