Governor Haley Barbour has appointed Shelly B. Boone of Gulfport and reappointed David L. Miller of Tupelo to the State Board of Public Accountancy.

The State Board of Public Accountancy oversees and regulates certified public accountants. The board is comprised of seven members.

“Ms. Boone and Mr. Miller will contribute valuable insight to ensuring the accounting industry in Mississippi maintains high standards of excellence,” Governor Barbour says. “I thank these individuals for dedicating their valuable time to public service.”

Shelly B. Boone, a tax manager at Palazzo and Co., replaces board member Angela Pannell. She previously was a firm administrator at Alexander, Van Loon, Sloan, Levens & Favre PLLC. Prior to that position, Boone was assistant director of finance at the Riverboat Corp. of Mississippi, better known as the Isle of Capri Casino in Biloxi. She is the former secretary and treasurer for the Quota Club of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She attended Gulfport High School, received an associate’s degree from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has three daughters Sara, Olivia and Tabitha.

David L. Miller is president of Nail McKinney Professional Association. He has worked at the firm since 1979 and held several positions from staff accountant to chief financial officer. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants. Miller graduated from Kossuth High School and attended Northeast Mississippi Community College. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Mississippi. He is a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Tupelo. He and his wife Ellen Davis have two children, Blake and Grace.
