(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointments of Lee Merritt of Columbus, and Vicki S. Veazey of Brandon to the Drug Utilization Review Board at the Division of Medicaid.


The Drug Utilization Review Board is a quality assurance body, which seeks to assure appropriate drug therapy to include optimal outcomes for Medicaid beneficiaries and appropriate education for physicians, pharmacists, and Mississippians.


“I am pleased Mr. Merritt and Mrs. Veazey agreed to devote their time to public service in Mississippi,” said Governor Barbour. “Their knowledge and experience working in our state’s pharmacies will be invaluable in their new roles.”


Lee Merritt currently is a pharmacist at Medfusion Pharmacy in Columbus. Previously, he worked three years at MedCare Pharmacy. He also was assistant director of the Fayette Medical Center. Mr. Merritt is a member of Springhill Baptist Church in Millport, Ala. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Samford University. He and his wife Kimberly have two children, Griffin and Hayes.


Mrs. Veazey has been the Director of Pharmacy at the Mississippi State Hospital for nine years.  Previously, she was Staff Pharmacist at River Oaks Hospital. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi. Mrs. Veazey is a member of Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon and the Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists. She and her husband Patrum have two children, Booth and Joseph.
