GOVERNOR REAPPOINTS JOHNSON TO BOARD OF EXAMINERS FOR SOCIAL WORKERS AND MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPISTS
(JACKSON, Mississippi) — Governor Haley Barbour has reappointed Stella M. Johnson, of Tupelo, to the Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists, which protects citizens from the unprofessional, improper, unauthorized, and unqualified practice of social work and marriage and family therapy.
“Stella’s extensive therapy and social work experience has enabled her to be an outstanding member of this board. I look forward to her continued good works in service to the state in this capacity,” Governor Barbour said.
Johnson works at the North Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC) Behavioral Health Center as a counselor and social worker. While at NMMC, Johnson has developed two programs providing day hospitalization to elderly psychiatric patients, and she has also provided intensive outpatient services for other patients. Johnson is a past board member of SAFE, Inc. and has been chair of the Mississippi National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Leadership and Nominations committee.
A graduate of Jackson State University, Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and social work. She earned a master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern Mississippi.
