GOVERNOR BARBOUR APPOINTS GORDEN TO PEARL RIVER VALLEY WATER SUPPLY DISTRICT
(Jackson, Mississippi)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointment of William “W.C.” Gorden, of Jackson, to the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, the state agency created to construct and manage the 33,000-acre Ross Barnett Reservoir.
“W.C. brings a wealth of talent to the board, and I am confident he will do an excellent job in this position,” Governor Barbour said.
Gorden served as the football coach for Jackson State University from 1976 until 1991, when he accepted the position of acting athletic director. Active in his community, Gorden is a member of the American Association of Physical Educators, Opera South Guild, Mississippi Mental Health Club, Jackson Noon Optimist Club, and is a volunteer assistant for Partner for Education. He received the Jackson State National Alumni Association 20 Year Service Award and was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
Gorden earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Tennessee State University. He and his wife, Vivian, have two sons and five grandchildren.
