(Jackson, Mississippi)—Governor Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of Dr. Randy Easterling, of Vicksburg, to the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure. This board is responsible for licensing medical professionals and for setting policies and standards regulating the practice of these professions. As part of its mission, the board investigates and disciplines licensees not in compliance with requirements and protects citizens from unscrupulous practitioners.

“Dr. Easterling is a good choice to fill this position,” Governor Barbour said. “Having extensive clinical and medical experience, he is well-qualified to serve on this licensure board. I am confident he will be an asset to the people of Mississippi.”

Dr. Easterling currently practices family and addiction medicine with River Region Health System. He is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Family Medicine; a certified Medical Review Officer by the American Association of Medical Review Officers; and a Fellow of the American Board of Family Medicine. Professionally, he has served as president and on the board of directors of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians; the board of trustees of the Mississippi State Medical Association; president-elect of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine Alumni Association; chairman of the Council on Legislation of the Mississippi State Medical Association; board of directors of the Mississippi Medical Political Action Committee; and member of the Business & Industry Political Education Committee. In 2003, Lt. Governor Amy Tuck appointed Dr. Easterling as an advisor to the Tort Claims Board.

Dr. Easterling received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He and his wife, Janie, have two children.
