GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR POSTPONES SPECIAL ELECTION (Jackson, Miss.) – Governor Haley Barbour announced today that the special election for two House of Representatives seats scheduled for September 6, 2005, has been postponed indefinitely due to the widespread damage of Hurricane Katrina. This is the second time this election has been postponed due to the storm. The two vacancies were created by the resignation of Joe Taylor of District 86 – Clarke, Perry and Wayne Counties, and the retirement of David L. Green of District 96 – Adams, Amite, Pike and Wilkinson Counties. “The extenuating circumstances of Hurricane Katrina led me to this decision,” said Governor Barbour. “It is our intention to reschedule this election as soon as the counties involved are online and able to facilitate an election.” ###
