GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR FILLS CIRCUIT COURT VACANCY SETS SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL SENATE VACANCY

(Jackson, Miss.) - Governor Haley Barbour today announced Robert "Bobby" Chamberlin will be his appointee to the Circuit Court (District 17). Chamberlin, of Hernando, will serve out former Judge George R. Ready's post due to his recent retirement. Because of this appointment, Chamberlin will vacate his Senate seat (1st District, DeSoto) and a Special Election will be held on December 14, in order to fill this vacancy.

"The Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee has worked hard to ensure that a qualified, conscientious, and dedicated person fills this important post on the Circuit Court," said Governor Barbour. "Bobby is a man of integrity and high moral character. I know that he will be an asset to Mississippi's judicial system."

Senator Chamberlin served as Chairman of the Elections committee. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and the DeSoto County Bar Association. Chamberlin is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law and is married to the former Kim White. They have one son,
William.

"Whenever a vacancy occurs in the Legislature, it becomes my duty to issue a Writ of Election," said Governor Barbour. "Voters in DeSoto County need to be alerted to this Special Election and fill this post before the Legislature reconvenes."

Governor Barbour's Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee, which reviews the qualifications of potential judicial appointees in accordance with Executive Order 914, found Chamberlin fully qualified to serve in this position.
