Governor Barbour Selects Moody to Serve as Interim Medicaid Director

(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced today that former State Representative Bobby Moody, a veteran lawmaker with deep expertise on health care issues, will serve as Interim Executive Director of the Division of Medicaid. Moody will act as the Division’s head in the wake of the resignation of Dr. Warren Jones, who will be returning to the University Medical Center where he previously served as Associate Vice Chancellor.

“I chose Bobby to serve in this position because of his leadership capabilities and years of experience with Mississippi’s health care issues,” Governor Barbour said. “He served as a member of the Legislature for 21 years and has proven his ability to lead. I can think of no better person to fill this role while our search for a new director is under way.”

Moody represented House District 43, which covers portions of Kemper, Noxubee, and Winston counties, for more than two decades. He served as chairman of what is now the House Public Health and Human Services Committee for 12 years and handled the health care budget during his time as sub-committee chairman of the Appropriations Committee. Moody was appointed chairman of the House Forestry Committee and was a member of the Ways and Means Committee. Attended East Central Community College, Moody has previously served as chairman of Mississippi Arts for the Handicapped. He was on the board of the Farm Service Agency for 12 years and has worked as a businessman and owner and operator with his wife Ann of Moody Farms for 32 years.

“Health care is an urgent need for many Mississippians, so it’s important that the Interim Director be knowledgeable about the state’s healthcare program,” Moody said. “That’s why I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Medicaid division and hope to continue the progress of Dr. Jones.”

Moody will begin serving in his new position on Friday, July 1.
