GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR'S JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE SEARCHING TO FILL VACANCY
(Jackson, Miss.) - Governor Haley Barbour's Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee is conducting a search to fill the current vacancy on the Mississippi Court of Appeals (District 5, Position 2) representing South Mississippi as a result of Judge James E. Thomas' death.
"We were all deeply saddened by the loss of Judge Thomas," said Governor Barbour. "We will work hard to ensure only the most qualified, conscientious, dedicated and reputable people are considered to continue his good works on the Court of Appeals."
The Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee will review nominees in accordance with Executive Order 914 and make recommendations to the Governor. The 31-member committee includes a chairman and ten attorneys from each of the state's Supreme Court Districts.
"Whenever a vacancy occurs and it becomes my duty to appoint someone to the bench, everyone interested in the job will first be vetted by this committee," said Governor Barbour. "A fair and impartial judiciary is essential to the protection of the rights and freedoms of the citizens of our state."
Anyone interested in recommending prospective candidates should contact the Governor's Chief Counsel at 601-576-2038 or Ed Brunini, Jr., the chairman of the Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee at 601-948-3101. All recommendations should be submitted prior to August 15, 2004.
