2010 Christmas ornament winners

First Lady Marsha Barbour today announced Garrett Coker, a student at North Pontotoc Middle School, won the 2010 Christmas ornament design contest at the Governor’s Mansion. His log cabin design was crafted into pewter ornaments.

“We wanted to have a definite Christmas theme as we celebrated the season with the entire state of Mississippi,” Mrs. Barbour said. “During his second term, we wanted to recognize the four beautiful regions of our state. We honored the Gulf Coast in 2008 and the Piney Woods of Central Mississippi in 2009. This year, we are celebrating the rich heritage of Northeast Mississippi.”

More than 100 children in Northeast Mississippi entered the contest. Mrs. Barbour awarded second place to Erin Cantwell of Mantachie High School and third place to Molly Palmertree of North Pontotoc Middle School. Nine students were given honorable mentions: Monica Griffin of South Pontotoc; Betty Keith of Mantachie High School; Tori Graves of Houston Middle School; Andrew Wilkerson of Byhalia Middle School; Madalyn Keyes, Kayla Norris and Taylor Guntharp of Itawamba Attendance Center; Kathryn Knippers of Corinth Middle School; and Cody Melton of Iuka Middle School.
