FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GOVERNOR BARBOUR DECLARES A STATE OF EMERGENCY (Jackson, Miss.) -- Governor Haley Barbour today declared a State of Emergency for Mississippi in connection with the severe weather and flooding that is moving through the southern and central parts of the state. "Our area has been affected by severe weather and flooding and I am declaring a state of emergency to ensure that our citizens are well taken care of and that their needs are met as quickly as possible," said Governor Barbour. "The people can rest assured that all available state resources have been mobilized and all personnel stand ready to help." "We are working closely with local governments to meet the immediate needs of the citizens affected and to utilize available local and state resources to assist in the response effort," said MEMA Director Robert Latham regarding the affected counties.
