Governor Barbour Appoints Brown to State Personnel Board

(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointment of Donald G. Brown, of Vicksburg, to the State Personnel Board. The Personnel Board is designed to develop comprehensive policies and programs by which the State Personnel System is administered.

“He is extremely well-qualified for this position,” said Governor Barbour. “As an individual with years of public service experience, I know Donald brings a wealth of talent to the table and will serve the citizens of Mississippi well.”

Donald G. Brown currently works as the Warren County Director for Warren-Yazoo Mental Health Services, where he has also served as Chemical Dependency Center Director, Director of Special Programs, and Case Manager. Brown has worked as an Employment Counselor for the Employment Security Commission, Public Assistance and Food Stamps Eligibility Worker for the Department of Human Services, and Teacher Assistant for the Vicksburg Early Education Center. He is a certified Cultural Diversity Facilitator, American Red Cross Counselor, Critical Incident Stress Management Facilitator, and is a licensed Clinical Mental Health Therapist.

Professionally, Brown has served as past Vice Chairman of the Commission of School Accreditation for the State of Mississippi, past President of the American Red Cross and Child Abuse Prevention Board, and is now serving as Vice President over Membership of the Board of Directors of the Vicksburg-Warren Chamber of Commerce. President-Elect of the Exchange Club of Vicksburg Child Abuse Prevention Center, Brown is a member of the National and Mississippi Behavioral Health Care Association, Vicksburg Police Department Advisory Council, and Vicksburg-Warren School District Advisory Council.

Brown received his Bachelor’s degree in sociology and social services from Alcorn State University. He earned a Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling services from Jackson State University and did post-graduate work studying group psychotherapy at Mississippi State University.
