Governor Barbour Appoints Ray to
Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport Authority

(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointment of William K. “Bill” Ray, of Hattiesburg, to the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport Authority. The Authority has the responsibility of maintaining, equipping, operating, regulating, and protecting the airport and its air navigation facilities.

“Bill is well-qualified to serve in this capacity,” said Governor Barbour. “As a native of Hattiesburg, he understands the value of this airport to the Pinebelt region’s economy and will serve successfully in this role.”

William Ray is the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Asbury Foundation of Hattiesburg, Inc. Prior to this position, Ray worked as President and CEO of Wesley Health System, Inc., and Executive Director of the Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. From 1955 to 1959, he served in the United States Marine Corps. Professionally, Ray is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Mississippi Blue Cross/Blue Shield Board of Directors, and has served as Chairman of the Mississippi Hospital Association. He is the past President of the Mississippi Hospital Association Board of Governors, and past fellow and President of the Mississippi Affiliates of the American College of Hospital Administrators.

Ray is a member of the Board of Directors for the Hattiesburg Chamber of Commerce where he has also served as President. He is a member of the Hattiesburg Rotary Club and past Chairman of the American Heart Association in Mississippi. A member of the Board of Directors of the Jackson and Hattiesburg Trustmark National Bank, Ray also served as a member of the William Carey College Board of Trustees and the Chairman of the Hattiesburg Convention Center Commission. Additionally, he has acted as the past President of the Forrest-Lamar United Way and a member of the University of Southern Mississippi Foundation Board of Directors.

Ray is married to the former Charlotte Ann Carroll; together, they have two daughters, Robin and Jennifer, and six grandchildren.
