Governor Barbour Appoints Furr to Telecommunications Commission

(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointment of Carl Ray Furr, of Jackson, to the Telecommunications Conference and Training Center Commission. Furr will serve a term concurrent with the Governor’s. The Commission oversees the Telecommunications Conference and Training Center establishment in Jackson.

“Carl is well-qualified for this position,” said Governor Barbour. “He has years of engineering experience, and I feel confident he will serve the people of Mississippi well.”

Carl Ray Furr has been a registered professional engineer for 35 years, licensed by the Mississippi State Board of Professional Engineers and Surveyors. Currently, Furr works as the Senior Vice President of Engineering Associates, Inc., a Division of Pickering, Inc. He also held the titles of Executive President and Principal for this same company. Furr is a member of the Mississippi State School of Engineering Advisory Board. He is also a member of the Mississippi Association of Professional Engineers and the American Consulting Engineers Council.

Furr attended Hinds Junior College, where he earned an Associate’s degree in pre-engineering. Furr then attended Mississippi State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He is married to the former Gail Johnson; together, they have one son: Carl Ray Furr, Jr.
