Governor Barbour Appoints Brown to the State Board of Banking Review (Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointment of Thomas E. Brown, of Bay Springs, to the State Board of Banking Review. The State Board of Banking Review is designed to adopt reasonable rules or regulations concerning the conduct of bank board meetings, hearings, and all formal and informal board procedures. “I am very proud of this appointment,” said Governor Barbour. “Thomas brings a wealth of banking experience to the table, and I know he will do an excellent job in serving the citizens of Mississippi.” Thomas Brown is Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Magnolia State Bank. He has served as President for the past 22 years. Prior to working at Magnolia State Bank, Brown served as President of the Abney Insurance Agency and of the Jones County Finance Company. Additionally, he has worked at the Bay Springs Bank and the Ford Motor Credit Company. Brown is a member of the Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus Advisory Board. He has served as a member and past Chairman of the Jasper County Economic Development District. A past member of the Southeast Mississippi Economic Development Council, Brown has also served as the Chairman of the Jasper County Cancer and Heart Fund. He is a past member of the City of Bay Springs Zoning Commission and of the Mayor’s Advisory Council. Brown earned his Bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Mississippi and attended graduate school at the University of Mississippi School of Banking. Brown is married to the former Barbara Vowell of Taylorsville; together, they have three children: Elizabeth, Tom, and Drew. ###
